Careology is partnering with Macmillan Cancer Support and Humankind Research on a new 12-week research initiative to advance understanding of how personalised digital cancer support can best meet the needs of people from diverse communities, helping to deliver more equitable, accessible and effective care for those living with and beyond cancer.
The initiative brings together three leading organisations with a shared mission to improve outcomes and experiences for people living with cancer. Macmillan Cancer Support, the UK's leading cancer charity, has commissioned the programme, which is being delivered by Humankind Research, a leading UK research agency focused on health and related social issues. The digital experience is powered by Careology, a leading digital cancer care platform trusted by healthcare providers and payors across the UK and US to support patients beyond hospital walls.
The study will explore how Careology’s platform supports a diverse range of people living with cancer, while gathering feedback on their experiences using the technology throughout their care journey.
Around 50 participants have been recruited to take part in the initiative , including people from ethnically diverse backgrounds alongside members of LGBTQIA+ communities, people living with disabilities, and individuals managing other long-term health conditions in addition to cancer.
The initiative reflects a shared commitment between Careology, Macmillan and Humankind Research to better understand the different needs and experiences of people affected by cancer, and to ensure technology solutions are inclusive, accessible and responsive to underserved communities.
Paul Landau, CEO of Careology said:
“We’re excited to be partnering with Macmillan and Humankind on this important work. By listening directly to participants from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences, we hope to keep building our understanding of how Careology supports people affected by cancer in ways that are meaningful, accessible and personalised.”
Emma Quintal, Senior Innovation Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said:
"We are delighted to be working with Careology and Humankind Research on this research initiative. At Macmillan, we're dedicated to ensuring that everyone living with cancer can access the support they need, no matter who they are or where they live. We know that people's experiences of cancer can vary significantly, and that's why it's so important that digital innovations are developed with a better understanding of those diverse needs.
"This programme will help us learn directly from people living with cancer, including communities whose voices have often been underrepresented in research. By working with Careology and Humankind Research, we hope to shape more inclusive and effective support for people living with and affected by cancer."
The initiative will run over a 12-week period, with findings helping to inform future approaches to digital cancer support services and patient engagement.
